Water, Water, Everywhere: the growth of non carbonated beverages in the U.S.
Release Date: February, 2007
By: Jennifer Gitlitz and Pat Franklin of the Container Recycling Institute
"Consumers are spending more on packaged beverages, and getting less for their money, so it would seem that adding a small-fully refundable-deposit of a nickel or a dime to bottled water, sports, fruit, and energy drinks would not pose a hardship for any segment of the population. Attempts should also be made to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of curbside recycling programs nationwide, and to increase recycling options in public spaces. Society stands to gain significant environmental benefits from keeping 144 billion beverage
containers out of our nation's landfills, roads, streams, and parks each year."

Is Recycling Good For The Environment
Release Date: Undetermined
By: Allan Griff, Consulting Engineer
"Recycling is considered ‘good for the environment,' but ‘it ain't necessarily so.' Conservation of resources, energy, air and water pollution, and psychological and political aspects are often competitive, and what may help in one arena may be harmful in another. The real environmental value of recycling depends on replacement of new material and comparative environmental savings, not on the good feeling we may get from doing it."

Oregon Bottle Bill Task Force Minority Report
Release Date: October 13, 2008
"Leveraging the existing collection and processing infrastructure is a far more cost-effective path for Oregon to pursue, especially in contrast to the adverse energy and environmental impacts of building an even bigger and less efficient bottle bill system as recommended by the Task Force Draft Report. Adopting innovative and sustainable approaches to increasing all recycling offers a better path forward than tying up more time and money in the bottle bill."
